September 23, 20232 yr Things have been silly crazy. The three craft shows I was going to do cancelled. So I thought why now play around with what little time I had… I did a couple of Aztec calendars one with a 60 degree the other with a 90 degree using an old piece of pine. Tried to finish the Star Wars one with Rub and buff but I need a lot of work on that and repainted it. Also did a Millineal fight on a Melamine shelf piece I had. then last night I just bit the bullet and did my first wood inlay. I think it turned out pretty decent.
September 24, 20232 yr Wow! How long did it take that Aztec calendar to run? Awesome job on your inlay.
September 24, 20232 yr Author Grandpa the calendars took an hour 14 and 23 mins. The soft pine chipped out a bit too much with both 60 and 90 degree bits. ‘’Thank you for the inlay.
November 1, 20232 yr Never have found any pine that carved well. When I had a student project to carve (in walnut) I knew the V bits I had were well used, and so I bought a new high speed steel v bit to use for that project. Nicest cuts I'd seen in awhile. Determined that for any critical V-carving project a new bit was worth buying to ensure best results. If I was selling such projects I would just work the bit cost into the cost of the project.
