Second turning of Hays County pecan with diopside inlay  8.25x3.5

 

Overall finishing process was walnut oil as sanding sealer, Acks, Danish Oil. 

 

Diopside crystals set in epoxy and turned with Hunter Hercules carbide to final form.  Sanded to 400 and applied UV resin over inlay to seal.  Sanded again.

Love the foot you use. What is the mount you use to turn the bowl?

I typically start the turn with a faceplate.  This works in my process better than "between" centers because I use an electric plane to face the blanks.  Once I get a tenon, I use the VM150 with 3.5" Shark jaws to remount.  These jaws move the work away from the chuck body facilitating easy tool access to all sides.  When I'm ready to finish the foot I use cole jaws.  I've gotten away from using the vacuum chuck due to some noticeable discoloration where the chuck meets the wood.
