September 20, 20232 yr Second turning of Hays County pecan with diopside inlay 8.25x3.5 Overall finishing process was walnut oil as sanding sealer, Acks, Danish Oil. Diopside crystals set in epoxy and turned with Hunter Hercules carbide to final form. Sanded to 400 and applied UV resin over inlay to seal. Sanded again. .40 Edited September 20, 20232 yr by forty_caliber
September 21, 20232 yr Author I typically start the turn with a faceplate. This works in my process better than "between" centers because I use an electric plane to face the blanks. Once I get a tenon, I use the VM150 with 3.5" Shark jaws to remount. These jaws move the work away from the chuck body facilitating easy tool access to all sides. When I'm ready to finish the foot I use cole jaws. I've gotten away from using the vacuum chuck due to some noticeable discoloration where the chuck meets the wood. .40
