We moved shops at the furniture bank and some of the crew decided it was time to put in permanent dust collection ducting.  In the old shop area, a corrugated pipe ran across the floor and it was easy for someone to bump it out and the table saw filled up with dust.  (IMO) they went overboard and put in a 4" corrugated to a 6" vertical up about 10' then across about 15 feet, a turn to a 8" for about another 8' to the industrial dust collector.

We are having problems with the saw still filling up.  One thought was thin slivers are getting in there and stopping it up.  So this morning one of the guys looked and found some.  He removed them, but an hour later, the saw was still clogged.

We now believe that the 6" vertical does not have enough velocity to pull the chips up that 10'.

So a word to the wise, if you are planning on putting in a permanent system make sure you have enough CFM and velocity to pull the chips up.

Here's the base of the rise, even after cleaning out the slivers

And the slivers also causing a jam closer to the saw.

Continuing with problems.   There was a big but not stopping pile of sawdust right at the inlet port on the dust collector.  Testing showed ~230 CFM at the inlet.  It should have been over 1600.   Found the gasket to the barrel was no longer there.  Next step is to add a gasket and  see if that helps.  We had to replace the barrel with a different one because it was terrible.  The wheels got cocked sideways and had a lot of dents because the metal was so thin.   Things that happen when a lot of people are working in a shop.

That barrel has to have a perfect seal, even a slight leak will allow dust to clog the filter. there's little doubt that the new seal will help, but a reduction in air flow that large probably has some other problem.... did anyone check the filter to see if it was clogged already?

Chapter 3:   Two of the guys spent the morning doing some diagnostics.   Got a pool noodle on the top edge of the (replacement) barrel.  But then opened up the pleated filter area and found it was caked in a couple of inches of fine sawdust.  Took a lot of stuff apart and cleaned it all out.   Both ended up with dust all over their clothes, but got the thing working again.  Yipee!
