August 20, 20232 yr Popular Post A few years ago, archaeologists uncovered this ancient Stone Age axe with an intact wooden shaft stuck into the ground at Rødbyhavn, Denmark It dates to the Stone Age, about 5,500 years ago! Axes were an important tool in the Stone Age for wood-work purposes. They played a significant role in the introduction of agriculture at a time when most of the land was covered by forest, which needed to be cleared. A paddle, two bows, and 14 axe shafts were found nearby, all of which were standing upright. The researchers believe these artifacts were lodged into the ground deliberately, perhaps as sacrificial offerings. Museum Lolland-Falster
August 20, 20232 yr Really awesome Keith, thanks for sharing. What is completely amazing is the preservation of the wood, incredible! I wonder if the frost if any has anything to do with the perfect preservation of that lumber. I think I'll borrow the image for our axe wiki. Wiki | Axe THEPATRIOTWOODWIKI.ORG Wiki
August 20, 20232 yr Keith, I'm having a hard time finding a source for that image, did you find this at the actual museum? I found the museum, and I also found plenty of articles on the subject from BBC etc, but I'm looking for the actual source from the museum. https://museumlollandfalster.dk/en/
