No excuse, but I got busy. I apologize for the late remembrance.

THANK-YOU ALL for your sacrifices.

My step dad was a Sea Beee. They island hopped from Pearl to Okinawa. His outfit put together a hard bound book of pictures with detailed captions. Quite graphic and very interesting.

Remember that icon flag raising picture on Mt. Sirabachi? He was there for that. One of those guys was a Pima Indian. I had the honor to meet him several years ago. There's a monument honoring him in Sacaton on the Pima rez. IIRC he was around 90 when he passed. Also, IIRC, he died of cirrhosis.

Also, Aug.  14th was Navajo Code Talker day, which I didn't know was a thing. I picked up on it somewhere....it's apparently a little more well known in AZ where the Navajo tribe is now centered. Those folks certainly deserve our thanks along with the all the other vets.

But Gene talking about the Sea Bees brought back some memories from my youth. The father of a close friend of mine (and neighbor) was in the Sea Bees in the Pacific Theater. I don't recall him mentioning  a lot of details about it other than he ws well versed on some of the construction techniques they used to do things quickly.

Yeah, that came in handy for my step dad, too. He owned a bulk gasoline and other petroleum products delivery service. And, he farmed also. His motto was " I can fix any thing with a ball peen hammer, a 12" common and, a roll of baling wire."

I had a friend who served in the Sea Bee's during WW11. He passed away at 94 about 8 years ago . We were welders together for many years.

Not like I’m too profound or anything, but I fear/think we are at that point where WWII is no longer a living history, but an academic one. Almost no live veterans left, and their children are reaching their end. I’m 63 and a grandchild of that generation. i have no problem with them getting stuck with that “The Greatest Generation” label.
