August 7, 20232 yr Popular Post Daughters brought me a piece of this Mexican double 12 domino set and its the train station which is a thin flat piece of plastic that is called the train station. I don't care what it looks like just so it is better than this piece of plastic... Here is my version and it might not fit in that nice little carrying case after I added a few extras but hey one hand can carry the box and the other hand can carry the train station.. They tell me every one in Texas plays this game all the time????? The top piece of plastic is the train station that came with the game! It does suit me but no telling what kids of today wants. The white area starts with the double 12 laying in there and as the game progresses the dominoes changes their dots. The train tracks are 3/4" wide from track to track so someone tell me what gage this is so I can get more tracks to cut down to make it purty. I also have some smaller tracks that are 1/2" wide and no telling what that gage is either. Those belonged to the youngest member of the family! I hope no one is drinking beer when they play this game for these signs might disappear before the first game is over. There was lots of scroll sawing making this project sawing maple and sawing the metal tracks to fit that area but no carving. smallpatch Edited August 7, 20232 yr by Smallpatch
August 7, 20232 yr WOW! I love it! It’s great! Much better than I imagined! Thank you, Dad! Can’t wait to show it off!!
August 7, 20232 yr Author Popular Post Glad you liked it and now I'm trying to find the size of those tracks. These were Tony's and he had two sizes of train sets and the larger of the two sizes is what I cut up and they have a track width of 3/4". The other size is 1/2" wide tracks, too small for the trains to sit down in between the cross ties. But first I had to narrow these cross ties to fit in the area to look like I think is supposed to look? Can't find just tracks to buy but still looking. I"m also thinking of removing every other sign to give more room to remove the trains when needed. But still don't have any sign glued down yet.

Made me cry.
August 8, 20232 yr Popular Post Nice catch on the station. The station got broken on our set and I made one in just plain wood, but does not show a glimmer next to yours.
August 8, 20232 yr Cool Patch. Never heard of the game but love your visual creativity and adaption. Glad to see you in the shop and posting again. Hope it's cooled down some for you down there.
August 8, 20232 yr Author Dave the forecast through the 17th is a few degrees over 100 each day and its been this way for about a month or more. all over 100. I have air conditioning in my shop but I about pass out trying to get in the door. Are you doing any wood working or what is it that keeps you busy? I played me first game last week. Lots of rules but nothing like regular dominoes. First time I ever seen a double 12 domino.

Lots of rules but nothing like regular dominoes. First time I ever seen a double 12 domino. I've seen how hot it has been in your neck of the woods. Good your shop is climate controlled. At least you have a get-a-way assuming you can survive the heat to get there. While we haven't had the deadly heat y'all have experienced, we've had our share along with the humidity. Most of June through mid July, we were under Severe Drought conditions. Little need for yard work then but it was miserable trying to do much outdoors. Since mid July, between storms and rain, just trying to keep the yard and property (4+ acres) under control has been a challenge. Little woodworking happening. In fact I haven't used the table saw in almost 3 years. To be honest, I'm a little afraid of it after my back surgery 2 years ago. Still don't trust my balance. I keep busy refurbishing my collection of various hand tools from time to time. I still haven't assembled the bandsaw I won from here at the end of last year. Most of May and June, baseball games every week night between the 2 grandsons plus the oldest (12) plays AAU travel basketball. He's taller than I am (5'11-1/2") and he's just entering 7th grade. Football season for him is now underway. Youngest (9) will start fall soccer after school starts tomorrow. I've been helping our daughter and SIL doing some upgrades and remodeling on the house they bought back at the end of March too. Nothing major so far. Spent a fair amount of time earlier this year into early summer trying to wrap up my step-fathers estate too. Anyways always something breaking, needing fixed or attended to. "No rest for the wicked" is what they say if that tells you anything. My mind tells me I can still do everything I did before the back issue...my body says "your mind is a fool!" Sorry for the long winded (typed) response. Appreciate you asking.

I was doing good til I got the knee replaced and now can't hold up for long at all. Seems the more they fix on me the more that needs fixin so probably doing the other knee next year.
