Gerald Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 Looking to buy a electric pole saw so I don't have to climb. Not interested in another battery to keep up.. Saw the Sun Joe on Amazon . As would not use it that often looking at the under $100 range . I did notice the much cheaper ones have shorter poles and some have detachable saws. Any recommendations or suggestions appreciated. lew Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 If you are only using it occasionally, Gerald, maybe this one. But of course you'd have to have it shipped so no one would know you went into "HF" https://www.harborfreight.com/lawn-garden/outdoor-power-tools/pole-saws/corded-pole-saws/65-amp-95-in-electric-pole-saw-56808.html Gerald, Grandpadave52, Larry Buskirk and 1 other 4 Quote
Larry Buskirk Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 (edited) I got this one, and yes I did go into HF. It's cordless, but uses the same batteries as my cordless chainsaw. https://www.harborfreight.com/20v-cordless-pole-saw-tool-only-64996.html Reaches to about 14'. kmealy Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 Just as an aside, my neighbor's driveway is lined with about 10 of those nasty bradford pear trees. Hate those things. Neighbors on both sides have pin oaks. I don't know which I hate more. One blew over last year and he just trimmed it and stood it back up. This week, he had some guys over with pole chain saws and did the terrible job of giving them all a buzz cut (tree topping). I hate it when people do that. A couple summers, I worked for a commercial landscaper, one year was mostly pruning. We'd be fired if we ever did that bad of a job. Not his, but this is what his yard now looks like This is what it will look like next year Larry Buskirk, Gerald, Grandpadave52 and 2 others 5 Quote
Cal Posted August 5, 2023 Report Posted August 5, 2023 I have the electric HF model that Lew linked to (go HF!). It does a good job. The down side, of course, is the cord - but I only get it out once or twice a year. Larry Buskirk, Grandpadave52, lew and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Much lighter than the Stihl gas one. Gerald, Grandpadave52, Cal and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Popular Post John Morris Posted August 5, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted August 5, 2023 Hey Gerald, I don't have a lot of experience if any with electric or gas pole saws, but I do with the manual pull the rope pole saw with saw attachement. All I can say, is make sure whatever you buy, the pole is very strong, and not some cheap aluminum stuff or thin fiberglass in the pole. I have used the manual pole saws and cutters and the cheaper ones break, or the tightening nut at the sections when you expand sections are really weak and you'll have a pole that keeps collapsing on ya. I think just as important as the saw itself, is the pole and mechanics of the pole to keep the sections tight and in place while cutting. Cal, lew, Larry Buskirk and 2 others 4 1 Quote
Popular Post Grandpadave52 Posted August 5, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) I too have the H-F (Portland) corded model. I've had mine for several years with no issues. Like Cal, I only use it a couple times a year now. I was surprised to see it came with both an Oregon bar and chain. I've since found aftermarket chains much less expensive than the Oregon brand. Sharpen them with my H-F (go H-F) sharpener. A couple years ago wife and daughter bought me the Ryobi 18v Pole Saw model since I have a number of Ryobi 18v platform tools. Haven't used it much since back surgery, but it's a nice saw too. Uses the same chain as the H-F. Ryobi also has a 40v model that gets good reviews, but I just don't want more battery platforms. As for going into a H-F store, I borrow the Unknown Comic from the old Gong Show head gear. No one even notices. Edited August 5, 2023 by Grandpadave52 Cal, Headhunter, lew and 2 others 5 Quote
