Board Stretching. Just for Fun.

Featured Replies

Distracted by the morning boredom I drew up this woven end joint,  It can be cut with a 3/16" end mill, and both ends can use the same toolpath with the boards flat on the CNC.

While most joinery details end up hidden when the joint is together, this dovetail-ish joint could be used on box sides when you find your boards too short, or when you have two different species of wood you want to use.

I can envision a wider version across the middle of  table top.  My ex was a KU sports fan, and I am a KSU sports fan.  One half of this table could be made from Purple Heart (A KSU color) and the other could be made form Blood Wood (A KU color).   I'm calling this joint my Zipper Joint.   When I get really bored I might make small schism table using this joint just for fun.

That is really a great concept! I can foresee several practical and decorative uses for that joint.
