Yes, it turns well.  I am still learning to not go to fast and make too much open end cut grain.  Less sanding if I can help it :)

Experiment with making your bowls more round on the bottom.  Cutting into a corner usually causes me a lot of extra sanding.

Made this one out of Maple as well, I love the look of it with the markings.

I see you are advancing in design . Remember wood grows on trees and if that cut does not work out you have either firewood or a smaller project. This latest design altho a little heavy has a lot of promise.
