Fishers DIY CNC lathe

Just watched this video. Looks promising for me in the future but thought someone might be interested…

Neat but limited trick I'd say.  Of course I have an actual rotary axis on my CNC so I may be biased.

Brings me back to the good old days when folks would make pattern followers to move a router in and out as it slid sideways to duplicate parts on conventional lathes.

That and  3D surface duplicators that tied the up and down lift of a router bit to the rotation of the slow turning lathe.  A pin followed a pattern next to the lathe and it had a roller tip to follow the up and down surface of the 3D pattern which the router then cut next to it.   Saw ball and claw legs for a classic piece of furniture being cut that way.  Four at a time on a 4 station rig.  One pattern made four duplicates at a time.

Thanks for posting the link.

4D I agree I thought it was interesting concept. I’m not ready for a lathe but I like different thinking
