What router for porter cable dovetail jig

Featured Replies

Good evening. Am 65 and new to woodworking.  Was recently gifted a Porter-Cable dovetail jig. Unfortunately, my ryobi router is not compatible as it has A 1/4 INCH shaft and 1/2 inch is required. Also, my base will not accommodate the template guide. Any suggestion on a router that will work with this jig would be appreciated.

Thanx :)

I had a PC dove tail jig and it worked ok with 1/4” shaft bits.

There are some universal router bases that may fit your Ryobi and accept guide bushings

Welcome to The Patriot Woodowrker @kiefer. Glad you found us and happy you joined up. Great to hear you've found a passion for woodworking.

As Lew stated, several companies make universal bases which accept guide bushings. You should be able to find one to adapt. Also, it should work with 1/4" dovetail bits. While I don't have the PC jig, my knock-off is similar and it works fine with 1/4" or 1/2" bits depending on the router and collet.

One company that sells them is (click here--->) MILESCRAFT. I have no experience with their bases but have some other of their products. Good company IMHO.

Not sure what model your Ryobi is but per their compatibility chart, their base will fit (5l models (see pdf file from Milescraft site.

Anyways, glad you're here. Keep us posted on what path you take. If you would rather purchase a new router for this specific task we're here to help too. Let us know. We love to helping spend someone else's money.:P

If this is the old PC jig built like a tank I have one . Any router will work it just needs to use a proper size guide. Like John said there are several aftermarket  bases that will accept the PC or generic guides. Let me know if you need more specific info.
