It appears that Festool has come out with a table saw, well a small one as it fits in a Systainer?  Hard to get too much data on it.  May not be available in US or Canada and might have some SawStop technology.  Cordless job site saw?

Nothing better than a tiny saw for the price of a full sized commercial saw.

You can buy small hobby saws for a fraction of that price, although no Systainer box will be included.

Festool certainly packs all the gadgets into that saw.  To me the more bits added (like stepper motors and the controller needed to run them) the greater the chance for a failure.  In the end it is a small saw and all it can do is rip and do a little cross cutting, which is what every saw can do.  RRBuildings hadn't heard a price for it yet, and I suspect his enthusiasm for the saw may have been tamped down knowing that info. I'd get irritated waiting for it to boot up each time I needed to use it.

Saw a used one for sale for $1400.   Wow, that's what I paid for my Unisaw new.

New ones appear to be $2k.   Neat features, but battery powered and very limited capacity.   Maybe if I was a high end contractor doing on-site work.  But I'll pass.

I went to a Festool demo day this morning and saw this saw.  Wow, is it ever tiny.  The top might be 15-128" square.  t has a digital setting, I guess for the rip fence and maybe for the cut depth.  A sliding table on the left of the blade.  Battery powered.   I am not sure their target market.  I think it's way too small for a trim carpenter.  How would you cut a miter on an 8' piece of molding?  And why would you need battery power unless you were working on-site and not in a shop?   I think it would even be too small for making somelhing like a box that's more than about 8" max on one side.

It's green and black, pretty soon there will be all kinds of folks singing it's praises.

Well, I do know all th sales people there, so they gave me a free Systainer!

 

Well, a micro Systainer.   I'll use it to hold some small hardware like screws.

 

If they are gold plated they'll match the box!

Does the saw fit in that systainer?

When I still wondered about the practicality of an ultra-small, battery powered table saw, Wood-Miser is coming out with a battery powered bandsaw mill, 36" wide capacity.   I guess in case you want to run your sawmill in a garage or something.  Six Li-ion batteries, $27K starting price.

One of the club members was helping at the Furniture Bank this morning.  He said he's recently bought one.  He said he had given up on his father in law's 1950-ish table saw about 5 years ago.   There are some observations

* $2000 for the set up

* Yes, it fits in two systainers, one for the batteries and one for the saw and accessories, but they are larger than the standard size

* it uses a metric,  non-standard sized blade, the same as on their track saw, meaning if you want a replacement or second one $$$

* he gets about 3 hours of shop time on the batteries and they take about 3 hours to recharge.  So if you are using full time, you'd need to plunk down another $500 for batteries

* it has digital angle and depth setting if in you want to set the depth to a certain amount, then angle, it does the trig to keep the depth the same

* the sliding table is nice and works better than just a miter gauge

* he is an avid toy maker and wood carver so he does a lot of "smalls"

* someone suggested it might be nice for European users that tend to have very small shops (or maybe those here working out of a condo or apartment)

* Bag dust collection is good, vac is good, but he had to buy adapters to get his existing vac to hook up. 

* does not have flesh detecting technology like SawStop

* max cut depth is less than 2"
