9x2 plate from Bois D'arc. Wood received from a barter with an AAW member.  I sent a box full of Pecan, and in return I got a box of Bois D'arc from Iowa.

You done it justice Forty, that is very beautiful!

Looks great.  Had to look that one up and found it to be another name for Osage orange.  I've turned some and liked it.

My first experience with a lathe in Jr, hi  was with an approx. 15 lb limb of "Hedge" (as Boise D'arc is known in S. IL.). Turned it between centers. Lathe was situated in front of one of the shop windows. It was unbalanced and flew off the lathe and into the wire reinforced window. No glass shards but that window was a gonner. 

Got it turned down to a reasonable facsimile of a lamp shape. IIRCC, I finished it with shellac. Drilled it for a cord, installed the lamp parts and a shade, took it home and mom proudly set it on the piano. Where it sat for several years, slowly turning a deep brown color. The last time I saw it, it was in my sisters music room, on her piano. It had cracked pretty deeply but retained it's shape. 

More recently, a fellow wood worker from Canada, built a Chevelet de Marquterie, a type of manual scroll saw, from some hedge. He uses it in his school of 

French Marquetry. It has apparently held up well for several years.
