Haven't been doing much in the shop lately. But, we got a lot done to make our home a bit more comfortable... on the outside, anyway. Inside continues to be a WIP. Right after we moved in we tore out all the carpeting in one hallway and great room and had laminate teak like put down. On the 5th of this month, we get new flooring in the living room and dining room.

Below are pictures of what we've been doing lately.

First picture is the back steps with the railing built by our son.

Next is the new front steps and landing with the railing by our son.

The next pic is the gate the same son reworked and installed the automatic opener. Lotta work in that two day job! A bunch of. Cutting and welding ivolved. That was after we poured the concrete.

Next are four flower boxes Phyl and I built as anchors for the patio pull down sun shades on the patio. One is hiding.

I think.....hope...we're about done with improvements. Today is the first day in three weeks or more, that I've been released to devote some quality time to shop work.

Well done, Gene...really looks nice. You probably told us before, but is that cedar for the steps??? The boys are quite the craftsmen (so are you).

Awesome work on those steps!  Curious, is the fence to keep critters in or out?

Thanks, Lew. The fence was here when we bought the place. We're one of the few places in this area with a fence. When we were looking for a place, one of the requirements we had was a fence for our dog. It's to keep her in. I believe the twice previous owners had a puppy mill. The other requirement was a shop building! Half of the..now shop... was a 10 stall kennel.

Nice work done by you and your son.

Danl

I sure wish I could get redwood around here, very nice!

Love those steps Gene, I see the apple don't fall far from the tree in this Gene Pool. :)

Those are all great projects Gene, well done!

Excellent and great looking work all around Gene. Your son is quite the metal worker. Love the railings. Your auto-open gate is gonna' spoil you.:P

Nice work, Gene! I guess gravel grows better in your area than grass?

That's a fact, John. And, it doesn't need watering or mowing, either. Like grass though, it keeps the dust and mud at bay.

There's an area in Phoenix called Sun City where a lot of retirees from back east live. They've been known to paint their graveled yards green. :o
