knockonit Posted December 22, 2022 Report Posted December 22, 2022 So got into lasers, picked up a cheapy, way back to try and decide if i was capable of having the patience to make'm work, well, ole gal loved it, so enuf said, she was learning how and managed o engrave some of her boards, looked pretty snazzy, so came across a new ortur 2 at a decent price, and walla it arrived, assembled it tested it for function, then began a burn and main board went up in smoke ,ugh, so we went back to the first one, to engrave some boards and well now the laser quit lasering, I mean wt fudge, so my pal tony came over, hes the guru on the cnc, and thought we'd maybe engrave some simple logos on it, so since i did not buy this new and it was already assembled i did nothing to the assemble other than check most connections ect, whether mech or electrical, dang thing had gone like mad for months, so in the middle of it returning home, the router dropped and went wacky all over a test board, seems two screws holding the router to the (for lack of better words, i'm a gonna call it the gantry mount) and let it fall off the screw which activates up and down, thankfully it was a round nose bit and i was standing right there and hit the panic stop, so now have used loctite on all mech connections, and did run a sample, and frankly i like the laser engraving so much better, so 'am waiting for the ortur folks to contact me in regards to mother board , i think their power supply was fubared and created the problem, but any hows, i was at a friends house way out in east valley and he said his neighbor bought a new foxalien 20amp laser and decided she didn't want it, we went over and she was assembling it, after a chat i offered her some of that Christmas needy stuff, you know cash, and well it came home, so perhaps today, will get it completely assembled and give it a go, also came with an air assist, (dont ask, i'm not sure, gotta read up on it) ole guys can learn new tricks if they have someone that actually knows how they oughta work to begin with. Merry Christmas to me and yours, hehehe, been a brutal holiday on tools Rj in az Grandpadave52, Gerald, lew and 1 other 4 Quote
lew Posted December 22, 2022 Report Posted December 22, 2022 From what I've read about Ortur, they are pretty good at replacing defective parts. Popular Post kmealy Posted February 7, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted February 7, 2023 Yes, my 35 or so year old planer blew the engine so ordered a new one. A few weeks later, the chest freezer stopped working and had to rush to replace before everything in it spoiled. Then the brakes froze up on the pickup and everything was so rusty, it needed extensive repairs. It was a bad month for credit card balances. My theory is bad stuff always happens in threes. So we might be good for a while. Gene Howe, HARO50, Artie and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post Gene Howe Posted February 8, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted February 8, 2023 Happy Hump Day, everyone. This morning, we'll take our BIL and SIL out for breakfast at our favorite place. Take a look at their amazing menu. https://www.zmenu.com/baja-cafe-on-ina-tucson-online-menu/. Then, hop over to Lowes to get a new celling fan and electrical stuff. Phyl doesn't like the one we have....wrong location, sorta un balanced and, she hates the lights. BIL will do the install as he can climb beyond the third ladder rung. Plus, he's an electrician, among his other talents. Artie, Grandpadave52, HARO50 and 3 others 6 Quote

Popular Post Masonsailor Posted February 8, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted February 8, 2023 It seems our shop has the same gremlins. The VFD on the big band saw went dead a few weeks ago. Fortunately Fuji honored the warranty and new one is on the way. It lasted all of 11 months which is not very impressive. We have 2 other tools on VFD’s and have had no issues. I bought the Fuji because it came recommended and the price was in the medium range for a 20HP VFD. They have a 4 yr warranty ( one year manufacturer and three year additional for a fee) so we will see how long this one lasts. Paul Gerald, Cal, Artie and 2 others 5 Quote
4DThinker Posted February 8, 2023 Report Posted February 8, 2023 Must be one of those physics laws. Bad things come in 3s. I'd believe that but my life experience has them always coming in 2s. One day I got hit riding my motorcycle in the Walmart parking lot. The next day, with my wife in the car, a college student takes a chance darting in front of a truck to make a left turn and doesn't see us coming down the lane next to the truck. We hit her smack in the side despite having slammed on our brakes. The polite police office noticed that I'd had another accident the day before and made sure to warm me to expect a 3rd, as these things come in 3s! Never happened as for me I'd already had my second accident in 2 days. As for tools that complain, I've found that if I replace one or fix one I always find another that could be replaced or fixed. That's another 2. 4D Grandpadave52, HARO50, Cal and 1 other 3 1 Quote

4DThinker Posted February 9, 2023 Report Posted February 9, 2023 I used to be an electrician. At least I could wire up 2 way wall switches, run network and Direct TV cables to every room in my house, and reset a breaker. Then at some point I forgot all those boastful "never had any training!" skills except the breaker resetting. Must have wiped them out when I got my first CNC and had to find someplace in my mind to store that knowledge. As such I'm saving up jobs that require a real electrician to have them all dealt with in one visit. 4D Cal and Gerald 2 Quote
