My compressor is an 80 gal. upright with a petcock water drain at the bottom. After every day's use, it gets drained...religiously.  As I age, it gets more difficult to get up and down to do that job. My son took note of that and,  designed, built and, installed an electric drain valve. The switch is in a magnetized box that is stuck on the side of the compressor. He installed it yesterday and, it works like a dream. The old back and knees are extremely appreciative.

Sounds great.  I wouldn't think you would get much water in your area of low humidity.

Sounds logical, Dan. I think it has something to do with condensation. It's not a lot of accumulated moisture. After a day's use, it might be a teaspoon of moisture.  But, I'm paranoid about the possibility of rust in the tank. Then, there's the thought of moisture getting to the air tools. Although there are two moisture traps ahead of the air hose, I'm still paranoid.

Man, I need to drain my compressor, I don't use it a whole lot but I have not drained it in three years. The only time I use it it for automotive reasons, and to blow the dust out of the garage/shop when cleaning. But still, I gotta drain it, thanks for the reminder Gene.
