Popular Post knockonit Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted October 19, 2022 well got the edict a bit back, she got a price to get some fancy door made, and well i just about croaked, wowza, so, i dug thru the lumber stack and pulled out a gaggle of left over 5/4 knotty alder i had used when doing a few projects around house. gonna make the screen almost mimic the front door design, with exception the screens will take place of wood t & g panels, and no speak easy window. any howz got the ole gal out and we sized up a buncha material, door is about 7 ft tall x 42'' made out of what is now about 1'' knotty alder, gonna give it an arch up top so when looking at it, looks like door behind it. had though about putting a solid panel in bottom portion, but think i'll just screen it. thinking i'll use the same type of screen used in normal windows, alum frame with the spline and such, but will mortice it on inside and put a small trim pc over, from ext and interior you will only see screen. got it rough cut, gonna let it set a day or so, then glue up top panel for making arch ,and then bottom panel needs to be 8'' or so, i like big kicks on doors, especially wood ones, mortise cross stiles in, top, bottom, and center. i figure oughta have it ready for some sort of finish by mid next week, have a little craft show on sat, had a friend talk us into going and setting up, we'll see. anyways a pick of it on a couple tables with it sorta, kinda laid out. lol. had to make sure the ole gal gave it the thumbs up. rj in az lew, Grandpadave52, HandyDan and 3 others 6 Quote

knockonit Posted October 20, 2022 Author Report Posted October 20, 2022 just got back from grabbing some free plastic pallets, as i'm a gonna need some to stack barrel staves on, seems i ended up with the balance of the ole boys staves as they had to be out of their building by today, so had'm moved to a guys yard down street till i can get by with trailers to pick up. gonna glue the panels up today, have to run'm thru the jointer some, once cut they moved a tad, so...........glue'm up today, get the mortiser moved to shop, have it in storage, now where to put it, lol. also need to get my little shop crane to shop so i can lift jointer and put in a new rolling stand, its on a flat cart now, way too heavy for a couple ole guys to move, so gonna crane that sucka. dig thru the drawer guide stack and find 18 full ext guides for the shop saw bench build, trip to the big box store, i need a couple 2x for completing drop of dust collector pipe to island in middle of shop, need to permanently hook up TS< Planer and jointer, each will have that pesky gate. that oughta be a mess of pipes and fittings, lol i decided to make lists, of things i need to accomplish, at least some of them each day, most tasks are quick and easy, i try to have a few projects going at once, as well we all know when things go south, one needs to turn west and see whats at the end of the rainbow. hehe, patience young one, heck that oughta be ''patience ole guy'' rj in az Gene Howe, Grandpadave52 and lew 2 1 Quote
knockonit Posted October 21, 2022 Author Report Posted October 21, 2022 well got both top panel which will have a sorta arch on it, glued up, it was a 3pc glue job, and the bottom of door , which was a two pc glue up. so plan is to let'm dry overnite, do some epoxy filling right away. have to say had issue with my 8inch jointer, for the life of me could not get one side absolutely straight, had a bit of a concave to it, so looks like the move of the unit thru it outta wack, now i have to maybe do some research and finger out how to get it back in play, ugh. did find 18 pr of full extention by 22'' drawer guides in my stash, (these are for the 14 ft of base cabt' which will have a gaggle of drawers, i may not use'm all, but wanted to be sure i had enough, for possible other project that may morp out of this plan, be liquid an old DI told me, "never get set in your ways, or it'll be the end of you, he was right" sorted some more shorts we found in the rack on patio, so looks like our visitor is coming back to make some more boards in a few weeks, figured out the drop of the island dust collection, see where it goes and did drag out my old mortiser just need to change bits and clean it up to do the door stiles, the panels i;ll do on table saw, well hope to any howz. forty_caliber, lew, Grandpadave52 and 1 other 4 Quote
knockonit Posted October 22, 2022 Author Report Posted October 22, 2022 so in the middle of all we have going , ole gal says'' i need some stands for my sister, she wants to display her boards in her kitchen'', i'm like ''whut'', lol. anyways, i grabbed some cherry and worked up some ideas and wall came up with a couple double stands that can break down so they can ship to kali, made'm simple with what i had on hand, some cherry, oak dowel, and some watco natural finish, thought i got a pic of one assembled, but alas, my thinking was clouded by visions of a ribeye last nite, ended up with chicken tortilla soup and fresh tortilla instead, oh well, here is a pic of them just coated with some watco, i'll put one together later and share a vision of the idea. happy sunday, rj in az lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

knockonit Posted October 22, 2022 Author Report Posted October 22, 2022 little update, panels glued up just okay, alder can be a pill to glue up at least for me, its pretty dry been in my shop for decade or more. anyhowz, gonna run them thru planer, to clean them up, which means gotta run all pcs thru planer, so size is right, then can begin layout o door stiles and mortise, once mortised will begin tendons on panels and center brace. meanwhile, here is an update on some items with pictures, ended up doing a few double board stands and a few triple, made template so i can run'm thru the router table and get done a tad quicker, using a up cut bit on the 3/4 is awesome and works fine, but alas, it wont do 5/4, too dang short, so i have at least 3 pr of triples to route, so gonna order up a bit., pretty sure oughta give the previous finished stands another coat or a final finish of something, kinda mundane for me. lol. had shop all to myself this am, had the radio on oldies and just got focused, managed to get a good review on adjusting the jointer, gonna have to drink a barley pop or two so i can make shims outta cans, lol might even throw a brat on the grill whilst i swallow it. heres some pics will take some more. of something later, kinda show the sequence of the template layout, drilling corner holes and a cut one or two. happy saturday, whew glad i looked at calender hehe rj in az Grandpadave52 1 Quote
