Name That Plant

Featured Replies

This plant grows under two Beech trees that share the same foot hold.  I have other Beech trees that are nearby and it doesn't grow under them.  This is the biggest specimen this year and measures  12" tall.  It grows every year on it's own in the Fall and is this color always.  What you see is how it will stay until it dies.  It will never be green or sprout leaves.  What is it?  The bottom looks nasty because I put it in water to show my brother and then forgot about it and it's getting funky.

Looks kinda like a Pussy Willow.

My phone says it is called Beechdrops.  Never heard of it myself but is a parasitic plant growing off the roots of American beech.

Looks like a winner to me.  Thanks Cal.  I went looking for Beechdrops and sure enough.
