I was privileged, honored, humbled, and blessed to participate in an Honor Flight on Wednesday, Sept. 28. It's hard to describe what the experience is like. All I'm going to say here is, if you are veteran, Please, Please, sign up for a flight. It doesn't matter where you served, it doesn't matter what branch, it doesn't matter if you saw combat or if you didn't.  If you wore the uniform you are eligible to take part in an honor flight. GET ON THE LIST!! If you're not a veteran, tell someone you know who is a veteran. Beg them if necessary to just sign up. Did I mention any veteran can and should get on the list? Just do it. If something similar to this has been posted before, too bad, deal with it and get signed up.

Thank you for your service, Brother. You deserve the recognition.

I will tell you what our trip entailed, though I believe each is slightly different. We departed Ft. Wayne Baer field at about 8 in the morning and flew to Washington DC, actually Virginia. There were just over 80 veterans on our flight and each veteran is escorted by a "guardian". For a veteran it is an all expenses paid trip to our nations capitol to visit several different memorials. We visited the Washington monument, Lincoln Memorial, Air Force memorial, Vietnam memorial, Arlington, and a few others. Meals are provided as well. We arrived back in Ft Wayne, after a long and very emotional day at about 10:00 in the evening. I was with my brother who is a cold war veteran. From the  moment we arrived at the airport we were the center of attention to make us feel "honored". Every person you see or talk to expresses their gratitude for your service. When I say each trip is slightly different here is an example. While we were visiting the Air Force memorial, their precision drill team made an unscheduled visit and performed for us. After the performance we were encouraged to meet and greet the team and have pictures taken. When we tried to thank them for the performance, they stressed over and over, "we wouldn't be able to do this if not for you". Like I said, an emotional day.

 

 

I mean seriously, does it get any cooler than that?
