The shop is full of different measuring things. Primary school wooden rulers (worn). Yardsticks. 6" and 12" flexible & rigid rulers in 32ths and 64ths with metric on the back (6+). Another half dozen retractable tape measurers and folding rulers.

But sometimes a plain 8ths and 16ths ruler is all I want. Finally bought a couple; got them today. Nice deals. It's blemished but who cares. $7 each on FleaScratcher, delivered. I've got a dozen "BLEM" PEC-brand rulers, never a single complaint. Big shout to taylortoolworksllc

These little ones, I've used extensively in metric on violins, hundredths on guitars and mandolins, and sticking around from our previous masters, the ubiquitous British Weights and Measures Act measurements, on everything else.

Don't be shy. Post'em if you got'em. :cowboy:

No pics but I have 2 12 inch metal rules, 8 Starrett squares in various sizes and configurations, 36 inch straight edge, School ruler, and I know I have left off some.

8 Starrett squares

Eighteen months ago I upgraded to an 8" commercial ceramic floor tile as a square when making this window panel. It still came out wonky  :Punched:but was better than if eyeballed.  Maybe?

Just finishing up rough assembly of Cabana No. 1 using an ancient steel framing square (acq. June 2021) EXMO's deceased husband 'gathered' *** in his journeys, I'm reminded it is time to get a few better squares. Seriously. Other than roll-stamped / graduated 12" x 24". this square is unmarked. Gov't issue during Hoover Dam construction? :P

*** gathering  a polite euphemism for trash-picking discarded and unsold items from estate & rummage sales

Finally. I found the missing folding ruler. I prefer a folding ruler when poking about the rubbish and scrap piles of a local sawmill, looking for that elusive scrap of c.1820 eastern white pine porch rafter. Or to triple-confirm the dimensions of a 3' longleaf post the owner claims he 'wants to keep'.

FLIP RULERS

Ten things we know about folding rules but do not much discuss

• The tradesperson or hobbyist likely has two or three folding rulers. But can’t rightly recall where they came from. :WonderScratch:

• The folding wooden ruler is cleaned only after encrusted grime causes eye strain.

• Customers who use a folding ruler at a sawmill or lumber yard attract whispers and suspicious glances.

• Merely carrying a folding ruler at a sawmill or lumber yard is a sign the individual possesses either great pretensions or is an archaic, difficult, opinionated individual. :OldManSmiley:

• An employee (salesperson) will hurredly fetch a retractable tape measure, telling you, “I’ll get this so you don’t have to fool with that old thing”.

When I was in the vocational course during high school (building construction), one of these in your hip pocket was your hall pass to anywhere in the school!

I still use one for inside measurements.
