August 29, 20223 yr These shelves were designed to lean against a wall. When I took them in to get their picture taken there was no wall to lean against. My dear sweet young shelves assured me they could stand up on their own, so I let them try. I have to say I'm very proud of these shelves for what seems like a magic stance. Needless to say the second the photographer took his last photo the shelves fell back and ripped the backdrop paper. The real story HERE.

Every now and then I come across the box it lives in and consider setting it up to play with. It uses an old fashioned NTSC TV for a monitor though which I no longer have, although I'm sure I could find one at a yard sale. There are a few game/program cartridges with it, and the big expansion box that could hold hard drives and a floppy disk reader, and even an LPT1 printer output card. Teaching myself the BASIC it came with to write programs with is something I associate with woodworking/furniture design. Being able to solve challenges more than one way, and learning to optimize/simplify code to run faster has parallels with solving fabrication challenges and reduce production times. 4D

When she moved out she didn't take them, but now that she is in her own home she has asked if she can have them. I personally like the contrast between the shelves and the posts, but a version could be made with hardwood shelves that match the posts. I've also got an idea for a connection to clamp the edge of 3/8" thick glass and have thought about a shelf version with glass shelves. A display shelf for more eye catching objects perhaps. 4D
