August 2, 20223 yr Popular Post Since a live oak at the back of the house decided to "gift" me with some free oak, I thought it would be a good time to start some green woodworking/carving. In order to do that, I thought the first project should b a carving/chopping block. First, we gather material and start drilling some leg holes, then chop the tenons on the legs to fit the drilled holes. Next, we level the legs and the chopping surface.... It was hot work, but it helps to be in the shade with a good fan nearby! After much leveling of the surface and the legs, it is finally complete and ready for work! Just in time for the afternoon showers to arrive! We'll put her to work soon, though.
August 2, 20223 yr Cool beans. Do you treat it with anything to keep it from checking or cracking or just leave natural. I've never worked with live oak, native to the south before.

As much humidity as we have down here (as I type this the humidity is 86%), it dries slow enough that the checking isn't bad. Edited August 2, 20223 yr by Thad
