July 16, 20223 yr Popular Post LOl, was out in shop working a bit re arranging, organizing again, installing a dust collection system in shop has been dragging on me, i have a large 4hp unit in a mech room along with the air compressor, adjacent to a wall in shop, this room was intended for air compressor and dust collector all along. so i have quite a bit of 4'' pipe, fittings, and today, i was setting on a stool and boom it hit me how to lay it out , and make it hit all machines with least amount of bends ect. i've struggled for months trying to work it out, amazing how dropping it from thought for a while an answer shows up. biggy was making drops in reasonable locations to grab all the machines, theres a lot, thinking i may make a manifold for the two band saws and the drill presses, and then theres the oscillating sanders. chop saw, lathes ect. gonna give it a go tomorrow, and rough in the main lines, best part about the pvc is you can friction fit and pull apart later if sealing does become an issue can give it a squirt of silicone, kinda excited it came to me, still waiting for the big remote unit for it, think i'll open a moose drool and see if it tastes like it did last week, happy saturday rj in az

July 17, 20223 yr Author Popular Post I'm a gonna get some pipe up today, and will get some pictures, think i can get most of main run up, and do drops later, gotta fab some temp hangers, and ab the stand offs, want main run an 1.5'' off wall, to pass over heavy duty shelving brackets and accommodate the angles so not absolute 90 degrees. and of course the required run to the big box store to get ''mo parts'', happy sunday, glad to be here Rj in az
July 17, 20223 yr Author Popular Post well, finally got the 2.5 inch flex to fix up the new to me router table for dust collection then got up the main trunk like to just past the lathes to chop saw location, and round almost to where it will go thru the wall above the cabt in picture into the mech room, gonna run one line up and into trusses and bring out to the planer, and jointer, and table saw. have one more that i haven't gotten hung yet, but gonna take another thru the wall, and go to right corner and drop down to band saws, and drill presses, and put a manifold type fitting so i can plug in the ocillating sanders and misc. don't mind hooking them up as needed. as well as the large band saw and the large drill press, i use the smalls biggest part of the time, big saw is for resawing, and awesome at that.
July 17, 20223 yr Great progess for a day Rj. Excellent and clean looking install. I would think your suction draw will be Excellent. Appreciate the pictures. Thanks!

July 18, 20223 yr I think I read where your unit is a 4 hp model so I hope you don't go too small with the connections at each item or else you will end up with some of the loudest air screaming you will ever hear. Someone warned me before I started installing so I used the same size piping to each machine and installed gates in case I would need more air on machines that made lots of saw dust. I also used pvc pipe with no glue in any joint....Now if I want to change the machines like maw moves the furniture once a week it will all come apart so I can start all over with no lost or unusable pieces. I just wished I had laid some pipe out before I poured the concrete to go to a location or two out in the middle of the shop for I do trip over the hose going to the table saw plus put in a few electrical plug ins out there also...which would make it easier to clean the shop but really that's not the reason I never sweep up the saw dust, lazy is a better word for that!

July 18, 20223 yr Author THink i'm going to have at least 7 drops maybe 8, with two different runs, see how it goes, all are presently 4'' with one being a drop to perhaps a smaller for the 2.5 inch, still struggling with that one, see how it goes once i fire it up, the remote for the 220v unit hasn' arrived yet, so............ thanks for info, gonna keep a close eye on it rj in az
July 19, 20223 yr Probably too late now but a larger size 5 or 6 inch for trunk line and then branch off 4 to tools gives the best collection. I did like you and put 4 to everything but branch from a central place in shop. I did change tpo 5 inch from Dust Deputy to collector couple years ago and even that small distance (10 foot) made a big difference. Not having info on what machine and HP you have a pleated filter is the next thing that makes a big difference.
