July 9, 20223 yr Popular Post I got this miter gauge at an estate sale. I thought the flip stop would be handy. I'll have to say, I'm not too impressed. It appears to be a Chinese knock-off of something and various user comments say it is often missing parts, things change, etc. It did not fit well in my Unisaw. It would not go in all the way and stop when the closest under guide hit the saw. I thought maybe the bar had a bit of warp to it. Lubed the miter slot and helped, but not too much. Ended up removing the guides underneath and the shims on the top and got it to slide kind of OK. I would definitely not spring for a new one. I think I'll be sticking with my shop-built sliding cross cut tables.
July 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Looks a lot like my Kreg miter gauge. Mine has no issues, though. Edited July 9, 20223 yr by Gene Howe
July 9, 20223 yr The phillips on the red bar is for adjusting the black out of round thingies to take out the slack. If it won't slide all the way then adjust them for what ever table saw you will use it on!

Quite a few years ago I had an accident where a piece of plywood got on top of the blade and was flung at me. Hit the Kreg miter gauge and saved me from harm but the Kreg sustained a broken guide bar. Called Kreg and told them what happened and asked to buy a new bar. They said how about we do this and sent me a new bar free of charge. Replaced the bar and adjusted to run square and it works like new again.
July 10, 20223 yr Popular Post Kreg is a good co. They milled the miter gauge bar to fit my Shopsmith.

July 20, 20223 yr Author Yep, my go-to is Kelley Mehler design, but I've made 4 others for specific functions. The thing I like best about it is it has a dust shield that slides up and down in grooves and can hold short pieces and short cut-offs.

JT Totally agree about the BB, JT. But, there are alternatives. Appleply, for one. Or, you could go a few steps lower and, use MDF.

I've never heard of Appleply, Gene thanks for mentioning that. I see a place in Jackson MO that might have that. I need to check our local hardwood supply and see what they have. JT
July 21, 20223 yr Good luck, JT. I can't find it around here. But then, I haven't tried all my sources. My favorite doesn't have an online presence. I've been meaning to call them.
