Champion Blower Drill Press No. 50

I went to my 50th class reunion this weekend and on the way home the next day I figured I'd drive by the old stomping grounds, which included one of my favorite Flea Markets.

I ask the guy how much he wanted for this Drill Press he mumbled something about he was tired lifting it in and out of his van, "How about $40."

Sold!

It will need some serious cleanup but should run again someday, either that or I'll make a lamp out of it.

Looks like the chuck is not original.

Any ideas about find a drive belt for it?

If you can't find the right length,  a link belt might work.

A pictorial of your future project would be appreciated. I might even get me some popcorn.

Nice find.

You'll probably have to make a flat leather belt for it.

Artie you may be eating a lot of PC before this project if finished. It my be a Champion but as the title suggests, it's Sensitive and I don't want to hurt its feelings with a rushed rehab.

I use to use timing belts on our 15 go-carts and they almost outlasted the Honda motors we used which was 14 years before we sold out and the belts and motors were all original. You can get them any width and length. We got them from a company in Oregon.  I also noticed the same belts are on the dragsters I was watching race last week. The best I can remember the belts were 2" or more wide and were run on flat pulleys. I bet any motor parts stores could help find what you need.

I'm thinking a standard V-belt or a link belt used upside down for the wider run surface.  Not sure what they used new but it needs to be flexible for the directional changes.  Very cool!

Looks like it's a MT (Morse Taper) spindle chuck.

Cool find. First John Deere store I worked in 49 years ago had all the tools, materials etc to make or repair flat leather belts. Common on farm machinery from the 1930's to mid 50's.

Quick Google search found these...no doubt others out there. Good luck on restore. I'll be folowing.

Actually I have found the top 3 links already, and the McMaster's link looks very promising.

I've got it torn apart right now so I can't get a length.

Thanks for helping
