June 16, 20224 yr A neighbor/friend had me over yesterday to cut the molding around a double exterior door. All went well, but the drywall is out about 1/4-3/8" beyond the door frame. They are going to stain and varnish before install. But what's the best way to handle this situation? The worst is across the top.
June 16, 20224 yr If the dry wall distance is consistent along the length/width of the door frame maybe add extension strips to bring the door frame flush with the drywall. Not ideal but is probably the easiest solution I had to do something similar when I built our dining room. Doors and window were for 2x4 walls but our walls were 2x6. Easier to build out the frame than reorder and wait Edited June 16, 20224 yr by lew

I added an ~ 3/8" thick jam extension to the trim and then added the trim to the house. If the thickness varies, I think I used the larger number so that I did not have to make a tapered jam. Danl
