June 14, 20224 yr Popular Post Outside, 97 degrees, 73 dew point, sunny. In the shop, 67 degrees. Ahhhh. Edited June 14, 20224 yr by kmealy
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post I can relate but you can sure work up a sweat carrying stuff up and down the steps
June 15, 20224 yr AC certainly is a nice luxury. When a basement area was my only shop space I blew my knees out pushing all my tools up the sloped side yards to the driveway where the moving van was. Now my large main tools are in a ground level air conditioned garage space. Bought this house specifically for that reason. My knees have recovered although over the years many of my smaller tools have found a home in a basement room and my knees start aching at the thought of eventually moving them out. 4D
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post I have a window unit to put in the shop building in the summer, but I think I'll be skipping it this year given the huge electric rate increase we'll. I am still running the dehumidifier though. I'll just stay out of the shop if it's too hot. Yesterday, It was 74º in there so I got in a few hours.
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post Don't have a thermometer in the shop. Don't really want to know how hot it is in there. A portable swamp cooler and a couple fans make it tolerable. Of course, starting at 04:30 or so, helps. By noon, I'm usually worn out, anyway. For me, hot days are preferable to cold ones. These old joints seem to work better when it's hot. One disadvantage to a really hot shop is that working with resin requires temps around 75 to 80. But, most of my pours are pretty small and less susceptible to ambient temps. I've got some coming up and, will be the first since moving down here. We'll see, I guess. Fingers crossed.
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post I love my basement shop for that reason but Lew brings up a pitfall. My brothers has a walk-out basement which is ideal.
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post Basements in AZ are extremely rare. IDK why, either. One would think a basement would help with cooling.

Hurricane Agnes passed through here. I had 4 feet of water in the basement. The only saving grace was I didn't have a woodworking shop at the time.
June 15, 20224 yr Popular Post My garage is fully automated climate controlled. The climate for the day is fully in control. If your tongue sticks to the metal, too cold; if sweat causes glasses to fog, too hot; if tools blow off the bench, too windy to have doors open.
