June 13, 20224 yr Yep. I had a chance to see the furniture projects students made in classes taught by new faculty taking over my job. Clearly there was no discussion of wood expansion/contraction in the class. Most projects showed mistakes that will lead to the same kind of failures down the road. Many will have already show buckling or joinery failure give the semester started in January and were finished a month or two later. Dry winter wood screwed to metal frame bases with no allowance for expansion as relative humidity increases. 4D
June 13, 20224 yr Author I worked on a lot of Asian import furniture from "TrAshley" to some higher end stuff like Henredon. It was not unusual to see cracks in the wood in table tops and drawer bottoms and "tan lines" in raised panel doors.
