New coping sled

I have been using the same tired and pretty crude coping sled for many years. The Mrs bought me a new one for my birthday. I’m going to use it to make all the frames for the pull out shelving in the pantry. As usual with Woodpecker stuff it’s way overbuilt. Not sure how my fingers are going to feel not being so close to the bit. My old one wasn’t much more than a board attached to a miter bar.

It really only comes with assembly instructions. It really doesn’t do anything more than a standard sled. More convenient from the standpoint that it aligns only to the fence so you don’t have to futz with the miter bar situation. It has a lot more hold down force than my old one but really that’s about it.

Today was the first outing with the sled. I milled 52 pull out trays  with front and back rabbet joints. They are 2 1/2” high. It was very fast compared to my old method and the quality of the cut is perfect. Not having to align the router fence to the miter slot is very convenient and since the sled is not locked in to the miter slot it’s possible to do two quick shallow passes which is way better for the router motor. All in all very pleased with it.
