April 22, 20223 yr Popular Post One garage sale/household sale....then raid 2 antique stores...Start at 0900 this morning...then have to take the Boss to Lowes... Spent $5 on five items at the garage sale....was going to get away with only 3 items....until I went back and looked some more... A hammer head, 2 c clamps... that folding ruler, and a little block plane....that was sitting out in the rain when I walked by... That Millers Falls No. 61A came from one store, the chisel and the 2 drill bits came from the store next to the first one....next...clean things up a bit... Hammer head got cleaned up, and a handle... This strange thing is a countersink bit. Goes in a brace drill..once cleaned up.. Next..that block plane... aka Stanley No. 60-1/2 Low angle block plane....had a large chip in the iron..otherwise.. Once that was taken care of, it is ready for work. Those 2 c clamps? This one was just a clean-up and oil....the other took a bit longer... Had to straighten that rod....at least it works now... This is from CLARK Con VAL Co. Made in USA....can be set up to a 3" radius. Had to tear this all apart, clean out all the rust, and even a bit of sharpening...fingers complained about how sharp it was, while I assembled this back together...that long straightedge cutter. Counting Lunch, today...I kept things just under $30....out of the $40 I started with... There are 2 more sales, tomorrow...we'll see...wasn't too bad of a day, today..other than the rain...
April 24, 20223 yr Author Popular Post Second day...was a bit skimpy....and...I turned down a few items... $2 got me a 4" pair of needle nosed pliers (Utica 22-4) and a package of 1/8" bits....15 regular drill bits, and 3 for a rotozip...(have a couple eggbeater drills that need the 1/8" bits...stored in their handles) $5 got me a wood plane... Iron is from Sandusky, OH. Tool Co. stamped in the nose of the body is a "O. GANTZ Tool Co." Razee Grip was custom carved... Sole will need a bit of flattening, iron has been sharpened back up Turned down a Handyman block plane (already have one) and a hardware store eggbeater drill ($9.50???!) Did see a couple hand saws....but they were not worth the effort to pick up... Not too bad of a Rust Hunt Weekend.....

Not too bad of a day. Plenty early in the season yet. Very little shakin' around here so far. Always can use extra 1/8" bits. Small needle nose pliers always handy too. That wood (coffin) body plane is COOL! Don't recall ever seeing one that size with a handle carved into it. Appears to be around a +/- "#3" size? Body looks like it's in relatively good condition overall? A bit dry maybe but that can be remedied pretty quick
