She who must be obeyed has finished another counted cross stitch project, so now it's time to make another frame for it.  pine, with a red oak stain, outside bevel is what is desired.

i'll be working on it over the next week or so.

X2!

The patience for this type of cross stitch is just amazing! To think that every speck of color requires the needle passing through the cloth twice. Amazing work.

I agree Jess.  Women put a lot of care into everything but woodworkers put a lot of care into their woodworking.  Maybe that's how we express our feminine side.  We've had a few women on this site but the never stick around but I bet they would do some nice work.

When Phyl isn't quilting, she's Xstitching. When she's in that mode, she completes one in about two-three weeks, depending on the size. Every room in our house boasts at least one of her creations. All have been professionally framed.  A dream of mine is to start making frames of the same quality as her stitching work. Methinks, I have a long way to go.

got the work washed and stretched yesterday, let it dry for a few days, then mount on a sticky board, then make the frame to fit the work's size.

her next project:

she estimates it will take 7-8 months to finish.  she works on these things 3-4 hours a day on average.  10 rows of work takes 8-10 days.  and there are 250 rows.  no blanks spots (the one above has some blank areas).

Phyl finished a good sized one (IIRC about 10X12. With no empty areas) of an Alaska scene with the Northern Lights over a cabin. Her current one is about the same size, of two leaping dolphins circling a full moon. Its all varying shades of blue...including the moon. Also, no blank areas. For this one, I'm going to try to stretch, mat and frame. Wish me luck.

if we can do it, so can you.

she washes the completed work (removes any dirt and oils from hands), and then the wet work is stretched over a wooden frame that is sized to be exactly the finished size of the work (measure before washing), stapled to the frame, and allowed to dry for a few days.  then the dry work is attached to sticky mounting board (foam core board with one side sticky), and the work can be repositioned as needed.  then the exact size of the foam board is taken and a matching frame is made.  i use 1/2 rabbits for the frame, so if the finished work is 18x12, then the foam board will be 19x13, and the frame rabbit will also be 19x13 (covering 1/2" of the foam board on each side).

Thanks, DAB.
