Been trying to extend one from 44." To 96. I got it to 83" with two new aluminum rods and reusing the two original.

If I add two more I should be able to get 90". The column I'm trying to simulate is in the picture. Looking at the hardwood floors I'd say it's 4" at the round base.

Trying to figure out details..

Would 3/4" or 1" EMT or possibly 1" Type L/M Rigid Copper match in OD for the tubes? 1" PVC probably not rigid enough? May be larger OD? Would have to measure mine.

Already got the tubes from Menards. If I bought thicker wall it was going run $5 x40. Aluminum was ok  on  hand at $20 for 8'.

I'll have to check at our local Menards. I'll likely never attempt something as ambious as you're planning, but your design idea expands the potential. I really appreciate you posting and sharing this thread.

I went and picked up more screws for the PC router. This was my second trip so I bought a dozen of everything I needed. That's the problem when your thinking outside the box, you're always needed one more screw..

Three screws short in my head and one on the tool. Just can't win...

After Thurdays I'm gonna hit the wood pile and see what I got for oak. I know I have some 8/4 but I think there is some 5/4 oak which would be good for glue ups.

Maybe there's some Ash in there. Can't stand it, but would work..

I know too little too late but there are lots of fluting jigs you can make for a lathe. If you are not happy with what you have works look up " fluting jig for router on a wood lathe" and get lots of ideas
