February 3, 20224 yr Popular Post And I just now looked at the map and Mass is where this package is starting from so I'm thinking those 96" pieces of molding might end up as tooth picks for there is ice and snow the whole distance....Ho hum, probably a bad time to order anything! But I don't think we have had any problems with any orders being shipped to us since I got out of the army in 1960. Nothing ever got lost or damaged. Now thinking back while I was in Germany Mom use to send me cookies and cakes and thing like that about once a week and before I opened them up I would get all the guys in my squad to stand in line and I would go down the line and pour some of the goodies in to each ones hands as all there ever was, was crumbs. It always took 28 days to get to me and I know for sure those navy guys on them ships would use my packages as basket balls the whole time it took to go across the ocean.. We never could figure how the mail packages from the folks at home took 28 days and the troops spends 8 days on the ocean each way so they have to be playing football a bunch of days to get our packages looking like they do when we finally got to open them! I sold Mac Tools from 1966 through1984 along with being a fire fighter all that time and I would get one or two shipments a week.. All the boxes were marked Mac Tools but every thing we ever ordered got there on time each and every week and nothing ever had to be traced down and we never had to wait any extra time. I do believe this country has completely went crazy in the last three or four years!
February 4, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Artie that might work. Yes, just tell them I am a personal friend of yours so if they can get one of their largest snow plows out and as soon as they see my shipment just jump out ahead of it and lead it to the middle of my state and I will send my wife out with her wheel barrow for my drive way is damp and don't want anyone slipping and falling. Funny thing, I tried all the wood working sales places then Lowes and Home Depot, Walmart and every body else that sells wood items and finally found a place I never dreamed they having this wood rope molding that I am too lazy to make my self.......Wayfair has just what I needed.......I thought they only sold clothes or furniture or fertilizer. I started to order just one piece so I could see if them and me are thinking down the same category type of thing. But one piece of 1/2" rope molding 96" long might have an extra high priced shipping charge and the guy driving that snow plow might have a short temper and might not have his mask on?
February 4, 20224 yr Jesse, both Lowes and HD carry a pretty good selection. At least, the stores near me, do.
February 4, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Gene we have three HD and Lowes within 60 miles of us but they only carry the larger sizes. I started using 1/2" instead of 3/4" plywood and 1/2" rope is great for covering the edges. I did find a place that carries 3/8" and 1/2"rope molding but only in 2 foot lengths which I have a way to use the 2 foot pieces. It makes it look better than long pieces. This was a raised panel door I made years ago and we changed plans and it has been too narrow for anything so it just sit there in the corner then I decided to build in the ironing board and needed a six inch wider door so I extended this old door and cut a groove for the rope molding and inserted short black blocks between the molding and now most of the things I make gets the little black blocks with the rope molding thingy. The door is oak and the white wood is ash which has almost the same grain patterns but for me the ash is way easier to work with and takes any type of stain. I always try to be different in most things I build. I never dreamed Wayfair would sell anything in unfinished wood especially unfinished wood molding!
February 5, 20224 yr Author Popular Post I just now got an e-mail from Wayfair and said sorry but your shipment looks like it will take approx 10 more days than first planned. I wonder if that means they slid off the road and are just now finding their truck..

Jess, Do you know that you can order online from Home Depot and have them ship the items to the store for free. I've done this several times without any issues.

I've done this several times without any issues. IIRC, orders above $45, they'll ship direct to your home for free. I've used that several times with no issues too. Often times, ship to home has better delivery dates than ship to store and has always arrived by promised date, but usually 1-2 days earlier. Items were non-wood items though so IDK how that would work?

February 5, 20224 yr Author Gene both stores both carry wood rope but the sizes starts at 3/4" wide and go larger! I've talked to both and they said they must never had a calling for the smaller sizes. Abilene has 2 Lowes and one in on the road going to Breckenridge. This is the area I go to every time we go in there and one time I was surprised as they had 3/8" wide and bought 10 pieces. They were 72" long and that was the last time about 15 years ago. It did take a while to use those but am down to smaller thicknesses of wood since most things I build is for something to do anyway and not been ordered by a paying client. The smaller sizes is harder to manage for the wood will bow down when the cutters push in to the wood. I can cut the smaller sizes on the Legacy Mill and this takes some rollers down the line of the wood to keep things straight while being cut. I was lucky when I built those quilt racks for I found some 1 1/4" Ash dowels
February 5, 20224 yr Author I want 3/8 and 1/2" wide rope molding. Like the red molding on that door I extended for the built in ironing board. Evidently they don't sell enough to get their suppliers to make it often enough..The last I bought, the red ones came from Lowes. This was about a year or two ago and none since then. I can make it here using the Legacy Mill but this wood has to have a cradle the wood sits in so it won't push the wood down away from the bit as it is cutting. I have the metal and the welder and the jig can be slick PVC with metal backing that would cradle the wood to keep it straight..,,,Building something would take lots of time for it to be precise. But hey, once its built I could start selling rope molding. The Legacy is a hand cranked machine and it only takes one different bit for each size molding.
