January 17, 20224 yr Popular Post Ready for the top clear coating then hang it high! Sometimes it looks better without the clear coat but I never know until its too late. I might have to take it down on the dock, lay it flat, drill a hole in the middle of it , install a long dowel, fashion a sail, and let er go! Back up, then I could find one of those real loud fog horns.................
January 17, 20224 yr Ooooh-wee Jess. That's nice. Lacquer seems to keep the best original look for me. Most of my ornaments are done in Maple and the lacquered ones look best.

Love the detail and especially all those "little rectangle thingies" you cut even more seeing it with the instruments. BTW, if you do carry through on this threat, point it toward the Mississipi River and Indiana. Eventually it can make it close to my front door. I'll listen for the fog horn to know it's arrived.
January 18, 20224 yr Author I had to get out there this morning and put the thing together again after the first couple of coats of clear and see if I screwed up. So far so good I rubbed out the main body of this thing with steel wood and wool wax just to see where I stand if I need more coats or is this good enough. If anyone is curious I have used my exhaust system to herd the fumes out of the buildings since the late 1950's in 4 different shops, kinda? I think one more coat of satin will be about right. Satin does hide any of the impurities I might have been lazy and over looked instead of fixing them??? Why did I use black on the backer board? thats all I could find in the cabinet! Dave, I mentioned to my wife one day why don't we take our boat up to Minnesota where the Mississippi river starts and go all the way to Bourbon street. She said why not go all the way to the gulf? This was always in our conversations of things we would do and things we needed to take. Kinda like get a ladder and climb up to the moon!!! This was not long after we got married and we still are thinking about it.. Now we wonder if pontoons attached to each side of a casket times two would make Paul Harvey growl like he use to do. This is the first time I have used this size of insertable instruments and I had to call Klockit and told them there was no battery for the clock like was stated in their catalog. Mr. Smallpatch the battery is already in the movement, you just take it out and remove the clear piece of plastic between the contacts and the battery...UH UH okay, I didn't read all the fine print, thanks. I never read instructions. +I figured there should be a double A battery or larger but no, this size movement is too small for that type of battery!
