Difficult turning

I started by planning 36 cuts at 10 degrees with a Yellow Heart and bloodwood combo.
it was very difficult cutting & I soon wished I had not tried this. The wood was very difficult to keep in place safely. I did get it cut & glued up. From there it went downhill. I had to alter it & redesign due to problems with the wood. Then my wife didn’t like the design & I shortened & altered it. Just as I made the last alteration , it flew out of the lathe and believe it or not…….I caught the darn thing in mid flight. I could only detect a couple of small places and decided to let them go.  It wasn’t possible to put it back on the lathe anyway.  Then I finished it. I decided to count the sawn segments & discovered I only had 34??????  It was a near perfect fit. That meant that each segment was near 10.58 degrees??????

i will NOT make another like it😃

Come on Ron. You got the hard one out of the way. The next one will be easy. 😂

That must be some very thin segments to get that many pieces in . Wonderful. The only change I would suggest on the next is a longer finial.

However difficult it was, I'd say it was worth it.

HA! I had a longer finial and that is the part my wife did NOT like, so I changed it.   As I've always said " A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do":)

That's a real beauty Ron :Praise:

Ron you are the king of ornaments. As usual that is beautiful. How you manage to make cuts that small and accurate and still have all ten fingers is amazing !

Paul

One stunning ornament by a real craftsman. I love but will never try it.
