The underside will be 6 “ from top of a gas fireplace. two questions: 1. what type of finish given heat issue,,,oil will dry out quickly? Poly? 2. do I need to craft a metal heat shield? thanks for any and all advice? Report
December 28, 20214 yr comment_279466 If you have city building codes, they will dictate the clearance and reqmt needed for the mantle. I will try look into what mine are. Danl Report

The following is my reqmt for a pre-fab'd unit. Danl PRE-FAB FIREPLACES Combustible trim and mantels attached to the fireplace face shall be a minimum of 6" from the opening. Combustible material within 12” of the fireplace opening shall not project more than 1/8” for each 1” distance from the opening. Report
