December 10, 20214 yr Popular Post ...can sometimes yield the most joy and memories plus the happiest of "clients"... ...So the fall of 2019 my youngest grandson (age 5 at the time) and Grandma GrandpaDave52 (age, I plead the 5th) were walking in our far backyard among the pin oaks we planted several years ago. It seems every other year they yield a pretty good crop of acorns which often brings the blue-jays in droves to feed off the ground. My grandson found a project he knew "paps" could fix. So he handed me his project, asking, "paps, will you fix this for me?" Sometimes, you just stop everything to attend to the "clients" needs. It's a gloomy day here and I can't do much anyway so just posting this for fun. Thought I had other pictures but cant's find them. Grandma-GrandpaDave52 retrieved it from his pants pocket before laundry. She has it safely stored away. Thanks for following.

December 10, 20214 yr Popular Post I was needing some acorns the other day for a project and the Bur Oak produces the largest size which is better for me to use. I got carried away and loaded up a 3 lb. coffee can with the largest and went in the shop and set it on the end of the table saw. Few days later I dumped them out and I decided to see what made that tiny little hole in each one of the acorns. Well that ended that project for there was a fat little white worm eating away in side the shells. So next time I think I will pull them off the tree maybe in October where the worms are still searching for some acorns. The worms looked like tiny maggots. I sure hope they don't smell like maggots and I don't know if so for the trash can said I will take them right now. Edited December 10, 20214 yr by Smallpatch

May be why they don't survive here if they get worms inside. Must be like a stuffed mushroom for the Blue-Jays? All I know is, by mid-October here it's unlikely you'll find any trace except for the tops.
