November 24, 20214 yr comment_276211 When you apply clear finish on a wood, it gets darker and beautiful. I have a piece from my shop that is nearly white ( don't know the type ) I'd like to retain that white. Is this possible? Report

November 25, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_276268 I would go with the water borne type, but check to make sure it doesn't have any tint to it. Some of the manufacturer's add a color to mimic oil based finishes. It's usually mentioned on the label somewhere. I've used lacquer and it is clear when applied. But Mickley (ocer on the old Wood forum) claimed it will yellow over time...I've not seen that happen, but he (Mickley) is far more knowledgeable than I on such things. Report
November 25, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_276302 I have a maple box that I made about 25 years ago and finished with water-borne finish. It has not ambered. There is also a CAB lacquer that is what they call "water white" and does not add an amber tint. But realize that the wood underneath can change color as it is exposed to UV and it may not be the finish that's doing it. Report
