November 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Well, there's one of these threads in turning and scroll sawing (I don't do either), so how about one for other woodworking? I'm making a large charcuterie board for one of my daughters. Maple salvaged from Sam's club wine rack, walnut salvaged from church doors, and cherry salvaged from some architectural trim. Have not decided on finish yet -- mineral oil or varnish. Want to bring out some of the colors. In progress photo: My wife asks what I'm making for the other two. I reminded her that I'm doing two barn doors for a pantry for one (getting progress on that, got the wood to width and thickness, and rough length (60 gal of planer shavings!)) and the piano bookcase for the other (after 5 month wait, I think I might get it moved this weekend, then a couple days doing on-site assembly. FINALLY!) Next week 3 evenings of theater set deconstruction and decide save vs. scrap. I got a nice Delta contractor's table saw donated and I need to reassemble it and make a new side feed table. Time permitting, I might also do some animal motif glasses racks for two grand-daughters. One of my wife's friends also wants a quilt rack built. Will not be done for Xmas.
November 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Need to make a small box, to hold a Gift Card....as soon as I get a couple other boxes done...

November 23, 20214 yr Popular Post maybe a very small, long box to hold some pastry thickness sticks for my wife. she's tired of messing with rubber bands to hold them together.

November 24, 20214 yr Popular Post Excellent repurpose of wood Keith! Q: What are you making for Christmas?... A: a list and checking it twice
November 24, 20214 yr Popular Post i have some friends on another internet forum, who know that i make stuffs out of wood now and then. invariably, someone will wait until December to ask me to make something "special" for their favorite person. so...they only became your favorite, and worthy of a fine gift in December? you had all year to think about this and ask me. don't jam me up at the last minute, or you'll become my Not So Favorite person.
November 24, 20214 yr Popular Post All our friends and family know that I fiddle around with wood. They also know how slow I work. If you want me to make you something for Christmas, put your order in around June!

November 24, 20214 yr Popular Post I agree give me at least a year to build up to doing it at the last minute.
November 24, 20214 yr Popular Post or this version: i saw something on Ebay/Etsy (i'll send you a link, with price of course), do you think you could make one just like it for ME?!!! (just me). so....you found something you like, for sale, and you want me to figure out how to make ONE copy of it, for you, at less than the price you could buy it for, because if I made it, it would be "special"? or i'd be specially stupid. go, buy it, enjoy it, leave me alone with this nonsense.

Could you do one of those for about $10?

(actually, that's my go to answer for anything i really don't want to do).
