One of my first projects post back surgery was driven out of need both from the surgery as well as the NEED TO DO SOMETHING. TV, You-Tube etc. had just about fried my brain, so I looked around at treasures I had hoarded, 'er placed in inventory and came up with this. Similar commercial made units are available for purchase on-line for about $40.

So what can a fried mind create from a can cozy, a used bicycle drink carrier, a worn out reciprocating

saw blade, a 1"w x 1/8"t x 7-1/2"l piece of aluminum, some #10x24 screws, nuts & washers, a cup holder

insert picked up from a parking lot and a couple of velcro cord wraps?

well first, cut the bottom out of the cup holder insert then advance to more complicating machining...

... where you drill some holes, and make an in effective engineering change adding #8 screws,

washers & nuts.

Of course painting the old reciprocating blade to retard rust is must, then add the velcro straps attachments...

...resource outside vendor product, then sub-assemble...figured it out yet?

20210710_155414.jpg.a2a091432dc20020b3b59e893c59770c.jpg

....assemble two sub-assemblies in preparation for final fit....

20210710_155547.jpg.c39b350bb1d5f1621037b939403f908c.jpg

...yep it all fits,,,3, 2, 1...gently squeeze trigger for up to 2 minutes, remove can, can cover, point & spray.

Took me most of an afternoon but at least I was outside and doing SOMETHING.

It certainly takes stress off my back and shoulder.

Thanks for watching...

Nah, you win.:Praise: Way more sockets than me, but I probably have some sockets that are a good deal older than you. In fact I know I do...I have some older than me.:P

BTW, you're missing one. These were part of a Craftsman 3 unit set. Where's your "gold" anodized one? My set has Gold, Red, Blue.

Red Green would be proud!

Maybe I'll get a new roll of duct tape tomorrow. It will push the project way over budget though.

Hey guys I missed it to.

Dave that is very good thinking. If you are doing something time goes much faster but for me time it starting to go to fast.

I have a quart - gallon air operated  shaker that is great but I have to stand on the edge of it to keep it from walking all over the floor. Bought it around 60 years ago and still works.

I'm building back scratchers now for a few days.  We find they are needed in every room.

Thanks Patch. That creation was born out of necessity as both a mental and physical healing from my unexpected back surgery right at 3 years ago now. It's still my go to method for shaking rattle cans with arthritis aggravating my shoulders.

When I was a junior and senior in high school, I had a part-time job with our local J.C. Penny store. I worked in the warehouse/ storeroom (upstairs level). Part of the job included cleaning, organizing maintaining the various stockrooms on the main sales level. One night I was assigned to the Hardware Department storeroom to reorganize.

The department manager, all spiffed up in his suit and tie was working the floor that night. First off, he was a jerk who had little man syndrome. He always treated me disrespectful since "I was just a high school kid" but treated his staff pretty much the same way. He knew more than anybody or at least thought he did when in fact he didn't know a garden rake from a toilet plunger.

Anyways, that night he had a customer that wanted a custom color of latex paint mixed; gallon size. Well he mixed it, took it to the shaker (an electric version of your air powered) which was just at the entrance of the store room. Pretty soon, I hear cussing and yelling for me to get there immediately. To my amazement I found him and the area covered with a sorta beige paint. Obviously Mr. Hardware genius had not secured the lid before firing up the shaker. I was ORDERED to clean up the mess. While not a desirable job, the most enjoyable moment of my J.C. Penny career; worth every second. He of course disappeared...I assume to go to the men's department to procure a new suit. Not long after, he "transferred" to another store.;)

That brings to mind a quote from the immortal Archie Bunker; "Not knowing nothing about the subject never stopped me from being no expert before!"
