These are some initial blanks I made up for some bowls. They are all mesquite and red oak with a couple of thin pieces of walnut.

 

The great thing about the Ringmaster is the variety of finished looks that can be achieved just by changing how the rings are glued together in the final bowl.

 

These are some of my early bowls so the shapes are pretty generic.

I looked at a Ringmaster lathe.  Pretty neat device but the hole in the bottom just bugs me.  These examples have been handled well.  I guess at the end of the day, you could just glue a solid bottom on.

Yep, that’s one treatment.  There are several ways to deal with the hole, some to hide it, some to accent it, and as you observed to eliminate it all together.
