The day we opened the go-cart track and people were standing in line waiting for their rides we noticed every one was fighting mosquitoes and we decided if they were going to enjoy our place we had to do something about the flying population.903819296_IMG_20211007_184616182thesewereregularsatminigolfandgo-carttrackfor14years.jpg.242d74e9a7f3c3fd7a8a092861eba8cf.jpg

This style was the largest we could find back in 1984 and were still going strong when we sold out in 1999. Stick a blade of grass in the the zapping area and it would almost knock you to the ground.

Fast forward and this type is whats to be found now so we got about the largest plastic type zappers which seemed to have a better kill ratio and have been using them here for some time now.657518815_IMG_20211007_185100876newbugzapper.jpg.06205c386b1a9f3967d6ed774c1035e8.jpg Every morning I have to blow the dead critters out of the wire innards and is usually full where you can't see the purple light..696678018_IMG_20211007_114016138onenightsworthofkillings.jpg.ae8a984e6f1abb0b9a17ab3df29dd946.jpg

The older zappers went through some hail storms and don't know how these plastic models would stand it so it might be advisable to locate them under a porch or a safe place against mother nature.

Also this screw in type does work and we do have one in the house to take care of that one critter a person seems to fight all night long but never seems to do it in. Some of these small units the white light does not have to be on and you will need to add a pull chain switch in line for one pull gets both lights on and the next pull turns off the white light.

The power on the larger unit is rated at 5500 and it is probably rated like the small mower engines and things which don't mean much...

When a person sees how many bugs are blown out each morning it does make a person feel like the money was not wasted and I'm sure the cost for keeping Campho Phenique around will go down to help to lower the final cost for bug fighting...

Also this Black Flag brand is who has their name on the zapper and its about the only one we could find with a decent warrenty, 5 years....again some of these so called warranties don't help much when a person has to be out freight two or three times.....

Our monsoons brought us a few mosquitos but, not enough to bother with. I'm one of those lucky types that aren't bothered by flying insects. Mosquitoes don't like my blood, I guess. But, them darned gnats whiz by my ears and eyes. But, If I don't sweat (fat chance of that, around here) the gnats stay away.

Jess, no doubt living lakeside you need one (or more) of these.  What varieties of bugs are you blowing out each morning?  Some type of moth?  I'm sure mosquitos are zapped into nothingness...

I'm being attacked by giant mosquitos right now.  Happens every year about this time.

Don't know Cal...Been too busy to dump them out so I can look them over. Every few days the moths change sizes and colors and lots of them turn in to real pest. The termites around this part of the world is subterranean and they do like to come out of the ground and take wing along with every thing else that crawls hops or swims in to our shack.

Right now the mosquitoes are very small similar to gnats which probably ends up being chased under the house by the cats.

I was on a refueling crew while TDY to Eielson AFB, AK. when cloud of skeeters descended on us. Two of them grabbed one of the crew and started off with him. We could hear them talking as the flew off. One asked if they should eat him there or take him back to camp. The other replied "Better eat him here. If we take him back to camp the bigguns will get him."

Living lakeside will always bring bugs. It's very annoying sometime. I used to have nets in my windows just to stop them from coming to my house.
