Cutting board

This was my first attempt at a cutting board. Everything didn't line up as planned. Now that I have a planer I am looking forward to better results. It is an end grain board made from Maple and Walnut. It is 11 inches by 20 inches by 1.5 thick.20210921_131617.jpg.217d142646fb4bb610ed8a0e0c4e1db0.jpg

Not a good idea to run an end grain cutting board thru a thickness planer. It can cause the pieces to tear out and split

I agree. What I need the planer for is making all of the pieces square and the same size. Then getting both sides smooth for cutting and the final glue up. I finish sanded it with an old Craftsman 3” x 21” hand held belt sander.

That’s how I did mine too. On my first one, I sanded a little too heavy and the heat caused it to bow. Left it set overnight and it flattened out OK.

Think you done good. I used a wide belt sander on all of mine.

Looks good here.  It looks like a really good job for a first time.

Looks good for a first one Rusty. Does your new planer have a spiral cutter head ? I thought it did. That should handle end grain easily.

Yes it does.
