Popular Post AndrewB Posted August 8, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted August 8, 2021 So the first casting of resin was an entire success now debating on buying more of the super clear and a pen blank mold for casting pen blanks. Either way I started turning a dragons egg with the casted resin. The colors I had chosen was purple for the bottom half and the top half is the purple with 3 drops of the dye and 3 drops of royal blue and mixed together. I think it turned out to be a really good color combo. Now all I've got left to do is sand and polish. This is how the Egg Started to take shape.... This is the Final Shape I think its fairly decent... lew, Cal, p_toad and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post AndrewB Posted August 16, 2021 Author Popular Post Report Posted August 16, 2021 As I am working on slowly finishing up this project I wound up taking the wet sanding all the way up to 12,000 grit this morning for a good finish still gotta work out what I'm going to do for a stand for it. Popular Post lew Posted August 16, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) I'm not sure what grit it would be but I've used some of the stuff they use to buff out car finishes as the last step. Edited August 16, 2021 by lew HandyDan, Fred W. Hargis Jr, DuckSoup and 4 others 7 Quote

HandyDan Posted August 17, 2021 Report Posted August 17, 2021 This is what many, including me, recommend. Designed for plastics and works well. lew, Cal and FlGatorwood 3 Quote

I use it on flat work, too. Most of my resin use is with void abundant mesquite slabs. Turquoise powders and/or stones and, brass flakes are usually included. The resin isn't flooded. Only used in the voids. The stone turquoise inclusions are often proud of the surface and sanded to level. My finish of choice is Watco followed by several coats of Spar Varnish. Buffed on Meguirers is the last finishing step. It really makes the colors pop. Cal, lew and FlGatorwood 3 Quote
