Popular Post Smallpatch Posted July 2, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted July 2, 2021 Not the easiest to do attaching a wood frame on each side of the glass and gluing it together. This will results in having to toss it in the trash if some of the glass gets broken... I still have to add his feeler gauges and maybe a head!? Almost out on a limb for I told her, you just make the butterfly and I'll worry about making a frame around the critter. There was like 10 coats of clear and I waited 4 days for the finish to dry enough to put the clamps around him and I was crossing my fingers and shutting my eyes as I was taking the clamps off.....and I'll never tell if I screwed up or not! Popular Post Smallpatch Posted July 3, 2021 Author Popular Post Report Posted July 3, 2021 Artie I wasn't the engineer, I was the guy who pulled the chain to make the whistle blow. How does that saying go, simple is as simple do. Well if there was not a saying like that in the past then I just now started it!!! I guess the next frame will have to have screws in it cause I know someone will break some glass! She might Artie, DuckSoup, FlGatorwood and 3 others 5 1 Quote
Artie Posted July 5, 2021 Report Posted July 5, 2021 Jesse, I love watching you look at what you want to accomplish, and how you look with a completely open mind, no preset opinions. I’m stuck with only seeing what I’ve already done. FlGatorwood and Cal 2 Quote
Popular Post Smallpatch Posted July 5, 2021 Author Popular Post Report Posted July 5, 2021 Artie I had to take him back to the shop and give him a pair of feeler gages and a couple of eyes although the eyes are to small and only glass but I'm sure he can see and feel his way around now! Seems like the cat is afraid of him. Wife is working on the monarch so I will start on it soon. Haven't seen her progress on it yet as she was questioning if she had anything close to the colors needed. Bernadette said she may call a halt to stained glass working for 1 pound of 60-40 solder went from 12.95 if buying 12 at a time to about 28.95 at the 12 at a time rate....... and I remember when gas went up 2 cents a gallon and we would throw a fit and drive all over the big city looking for someone who hadn't raised their price yet.. I retired in Jan 1980 and my pension from the fire dept was set at that dates prices, Now it almost cost what the check is for just in the postage to get it here...... I'm already trying to think of something different to do to the monarch butterfly, but what, I don't know. Cal, DuckSoup, Artie and 2 others 5 Quote

Jesse, That's a huge jump in price for solder. Has Bernadette ever considered selling her work? FlGatorwood, Gunny and Cal 3 Quote
Popular Post Smallpatch Posted July 7, 2021 Author Popular Post Report Posted July 7, 2021 Gene when she started buying solder a year or two after we moved here 60-40 solder was 3.95 a pound like around 2000 and about a year or so ago it was 12.95 a pound if bought 12 at a time. We keep an eye on the prices of solder every where it is sold. Some cheap brands are full of residue and don't solder very good..Good brands are right at 28.95 right now. She does sells her things for she has a display in town all the time and also some of my things are there. At any given time the staging areas I guess you would call it inside our house for our things and right now there are 21 large things hanging in the windows and as she gets room in town she transfers them . Her shop walls are always full of finished products which might be thirty different things ready to go plus her old room out in my shop she has things hanging in the windows and some walls. I bet I can find at least 20 soldering irons not counting the cheap 20 dollar models..Any time we see a stained glass shop selling out we go and usually buy the contents which is the reason for so many soldering irons. This might have been the reason she had both wrist operated on for she said she had too much money invested to just be sitting there. Gerald, Cal, Gunny and 2 others 5 Quote
