custom stain match

Well, in a first, I had S-W's local store custom match a stain for a project.  I dropped it off and about 2 hours later, they called to say it was ready.  I'm thinking they probably put it on a scanner and it spits out a formula.  I doubt anyone in the store would have such precise measurements by eye (7/128 oz black, 1/64 oz maroon UTCs).  I took in a cutoff of the wood they used and so far (without a top coat), it looks reasonable.

That’s encouraging. Never had them do stain but they have done well on various paint colors.

In 2019 I was asked to install handrails in a home which was designed by an understudy of Frank L. Wright.  I took a piece of the original mill work to SW and they did a "spot on" job of matching the stain.  The home owner was very pleased.  By far better job of matching than what other contractors did on previous projects.   Danl
