Apothecary cabinet

Featured Replies

Anybody got any plans for a 9 drawer or bigger apothecary cabinet?

I get my plans or thoughts on  how to go about building something by studying the pictures I get off of Pinterest and I just now looked and there are many pictures of apothecary cabinets. Then if pictures is not enough how about getting the 10,000 plans from the guy that advertises all those plans and his name is Roy something? Roy Foley for I just now looked it up. Or Ted someone has the 10,000 plans!

A word of caution on Ted's plans.  It is not worth what you pay.  I have read from other woodworkers that you get cheated with Ted's plans.  Incomplete and inaccurate.  I have not seen one of his commercials in a few years now.

I have seen so many Ted's advertisements lately.

Partly they are disguised by someone else's attempts to flog them via different sites.

The con continues....

you people use plans?

i just sketch out what i want, sometimes based on a picture i see, and go from there.

ok, 20" wide, allow for the side material, want 4 drawers across.....

it's not that hard.

That's why I like Sketchup. It gives me a chance to get a handle on material quantities, Unexpected pitfalls and general overall proportions.

Built this for the new neighbor's kids several years ago-

The Mom sent me this picture as a start-

From there to a Sketchup drawing (Actually a LOT of Sketchup drawings)

And the (almost) finished bed. The Dad added the drawer fronts after this pix.

This was built entirely in my basement shop. By having plans, I was able to make subassemblies that could be carried up the stairs, thru a narrow hall, around a corner and out of the front door with similar difficulties getting into the kids' room.

i tried sketchup many years ago, when it was free on google, and i had a better internet connection.  i suppose, if you got proficient, it could be useful, but i found that i'm better with a pencil and a sheet or 10 of paper.  if I need to work out proportions, then i draw it to scale on my drafting table.  but most times, that's not needed.  built an entire kitchen that way.  and a coffee table, and a side board, and end tables, and a bed, and side tables, and an entertainment center.....you get the idea.  first build the big part, then make the small parts fit.

built this pantry/fridge enclosure in place, using parts i had measured and cut in the shop.

it's 8 feet tall. so no way i could move it in one piece.

Beautiful! Is that hickory or ambrosia maple?

BTW, there still is a free version of Sketchup that is downloadable for your computer. Sketchup Make 2017 installs on your computer. No need for an Internet connection after installation.

Ambrosia Maple, AKA Wormy Maple.  it ran about $2.20/BF when we did this several years ago.

Dab, that is one really fine job.  Kudos!

Gorgeous!!

Beautiful work Lew !...I like my builds/purchases to be not only appealing,.... but strong...even craftsman style if necessary. Those bunk beds look like they can even withstand kids :D
