April 12, 20215 yr Popular Post Managed to get started on the cabinet for my daughter. I had ordered materials and only got part of the order. Couldn't get the poplar I wanted for the drawers so I had to buy 3/4" primed and plane it down to 1/2" thick. I was surprised to find that the poplar lengths were finger jointed pieces. Should work OK for the drawers. Still waiting for one length of oak for the drawer fronts and the 3/4 " ply for the cabinet sides and top. Photos shows what I've accomplished so far. I built a jig for clamping the unit during assembly. This old pfart is finding it takes a bit longer to make any progress, but it will get done.
April 12, 20215 yr Popular Post I have used that same method in a pinch to fix a drawer with some primed poplar, worked okay. The fingers are glued so it will hold forever.
April 12, 20215 yr Looks like an excellent start, Al. Looking forward to the rest of the process and the finished product.
April 12, 20215 yr Al its great to see you starting on a project. When I first saw the title of this post I was thinking that scroll saw was fixin to get a work out. But then I thought of what I made for wife's sewing room and there was not much room for any scroll sawing. So anyway if you need something to scroll I have all the pictures of things I have made for the past 20 years or more and I'll be happy to send you something to play with or any one else and I would also offer bland advise if asked.
April 13, 20215 yr Author Going to be a little delay in the sewing machine room cabinet. Went to the shop today and while setting up to rout box joints on my router I used a piece of scrap for the set up. The wood shattered while routing, doing a bit of a job to my middle finger on my right hand. Nothing serious, but being on Eliquis, I wasn't able to stop the bleeding. After 3 hours I ended up in the emergency room where they determined I didn't need stitches, but they glued everything together.
April 13, 20215 yr Popular Post Hope it doesn't slow you up for too long Al. Glad it didn't need stitches.
