February 2, 20214 yr Popular Post Wife has a couple of sizes but she had a request for some 1 3/4" holes in the center of some glass circles so I ordered this set. The set was less than 19 with free freight from Amazon...If kept wet while cutting they will last a long time.. Its not mentioned here with all the macho wood workers but there are times I needed a hole or two in some glass or ceramic or this type on material..
February 2, 20214 yr Popular Post I have a set like this. As you mentioned keep it wet and go easy when drilling. Works well.
February 3, 20214 yr That looks like a nice set Jess! I've passed on several projects over the years because I had no cheap and effective way to get a hole in glass. May do a search on Amazon today for these. Or maybe I will wait a day or two to see what else shows up in this thread.
February 3, 20214 yr I would be interested in seeing a pic of your set-up and how you retain the water. thanks Danl
February 3, 20214 yr Author Popular Post Danl do you know what Mastic is....It comes in rolls that is used to go between roofing metal to seal out the water but I use it to keep the metal from squeaking in high winds. I'll go get a picture of a roll. I bought a few rolls in 1983 and its been in freezing weather and in very hot barns in the summer and it is still exactly the same as the day I bought it...can't say that about a lot of products... Danl it is about 3/8" wide and 1/8" thick. Lay a circle of it a little larger than the hole saw. Lay it down then lay some wax paper on top of it and press down and just a little water in there and I use the big drill press so the rpm's are for drilling in metal so slower than fast and don't put too much pressure and it takes about 10 to 15 seconds on 1/8" glass. I noticed it did get a little dirty but hey 1983 was when I was fixin to open the go-cart track and was used on the roofing and it has been in sewing cabinet most of the years since then....plumbers putty was mentioned in the adds on amazon but anything will work for a small dam. I only use about 4 or 5 squirts from a water bottle wife uses to dampen her clothes when ironing.. The roll in the picture is about a foot off of what a roll is new. February 3, 20214 yr Author I forgot, on the inside of the roll is the name Tacky Tape , Schnee Morehead, Irving Texas 75060.....Plumbers putty would be closer to you.
