Is my nomenclature correct?

I refer to store bought cabinets as "stock" cabinets. Not sure where I picked that up, but it's what Ive always used to describe any cabinet that wasn't custom made....this includes the ones from cabinet companies that are manufactured to order. To me a "custom" cabinet is from someone who build them to a dimension that's not some multiple of 3". I ask my question because I see some folks referring to the manufactured cabinets as "custom" versus "stock". Even worse, I see some homes listed by builders as having "custom cabinets", when the are of the manufactured variety. Someone straighten me out on this.

I'm like you, Fred, custom means built from scratch, to exact specifications, by a craftsperson.

So, I think you are correct.

But you didn't consider "luxury" cabinets.   Adding the word "Luxury" or "Deluxe" or spelling things like "Towne" or "Centre" automatically bumps up the price

Somewhere along the line, the term semi-custom appeared (would that be like semi-pregnant?)  Kind of a hybrid - they are built and finished for you, but to the standard specs as you describe.  Some offer modifications in depth, but seldom in widths.  I used to sell an unfinished line from a nice family owned company out of New England where you could decrease the width or depth without any upcharge - just pay for the next larger size.   Don't know if they survived the pandemic.
